Whilst in Rome during my semester abroad, I had the pleasure of dining in the most fabulous of restaurants with my beautiful roommate and friend, Adrienne. Miss Adrienne happens to be quite the foodie and even worked for the premier food critic while we lived in Rome.
Naturally, we promised to continue our foodie adventures together once we got back to school in San Diego. Last night was our first date night together at a crazy good restaurant located in North Park's restaurant row called Urban Solace.
Urban Solace's introduction on their menu says:
"It's simple. We are folks who love tasty food and even better service. It is what inspires us every day and keeps us looking to innovate and create memorable experiences."
This pretty much sums up the entire experience-- we had incredibly tasty food and fantastic service. I'd describe the ambiance as cozy, trendy, with a sprinkle of hipster (but not in an overbearing way). The exposed brick and twinkly lights make Urban Solace ring true to its name.
Warm Cheese Biscuits, Orange-Honey Butter, Smoked Tomato Jam
Warm Spinach Salad, Bacon Lardon, Poached Egg, Shaved Parmesan, Bacon Vinaigrette
Skillet of Duckaroni (Macaroni and Cheese with Duck Confit)
Braised Paso Grass-fed Beef Cheeks, Smoked Tomato Jam, Mustard and Garlic Jus, Sweet Potato Mash
Sea Salted Caramel Pot de Creme
For me, the two winners were the Duckaroni and Pot de Creme. Macaroni and cheese meets duck confit is just genius and the sea salted caramel pot de creme brought together all my favorite sweet and savory flavors.
Overall the night was simply lovely with dressed up comfort food in a relaxed, yet trendy environment. We will definitely be returning to this North Park hotspot.
Adrienne jokes that we are The Canon Club...
